Mission Trip June 10 - June 17, 2006 to Frontera De Cristo

Nine members of Nazareth traveled to Frontera De Cristo, one of the 8 border missions sponsored by the Presbyterian Church. David Sutton, Chuck Holmes, Allison Holmes, Robin Whitfield, Ashley Whitfield, Cassie Jackson, Stephanie Gray, Gail Thomason and Iris Menendez spent a week working with fellow Presbyterians in Aqua Prieta Mexico.

During this week members of Nazareth learned how difficult it is to live on the salary typically paid to factory workers. They saw first hand the trecherous desert many people attempt to cross in hopes of finding work in the United States. They went to a drug rehabilitation center and learned about efforts to prevent deaths due to dehydration in the desert by people on both in the US and Mexican side of the border. Our team visited Just Coffee, an initiative that provides Mexican coffee growers a place where they can sell their product thus allowing families to stay in their homeland and earn a decent living,..in fact many members of Nazareth now enjoy this coffee each day as we are purchasing coffee sold by the Just Coffee operation.

Above all our members got to meet Mark Adams and the people of Frontera De Cristo, The Lily of the Valley Church and most importantly the children of Aqua Prieta who attended Bible School during the week in Mexico. Below are a few pictures from this very special week...a week that had an impact on all of us at Nazareth Presbyterian Church.
